WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR COURSE

Become a Water Safety Instructor - with a revolutionary NEW blended learning option!
Learn to teach children and adults safety, survival, swimming skills and teach your community about water safety.  It's a lot fun and you will develop valuable teaching and leadership skills.  Plan now to learn how to teach water safety, six levels of Learn to Swim, three levels of Preschool aquatics and two levels of Parent and Child aquatics.

Certification includes Water Safety Instructor (WSI).

Once registered for the course you will receive the online course link.

The course is pass/fail, no refunds if a student fails to complete the course requirements or fails to attend every class.

Class meets on the following dates:
April 27th 9-10am Prerequisite (in person)
Online done at home
June 7th 4-6pm, June 8th 8am-6pm, June 9th 8am-6pm

To participate in the Water Safety Instructor course, individuals must be 16 years of age on or before the final scheduled lesson of this cours and demonstrate the ability to perform the following skills:

1. Swim the follow strokes consistent with the Stroke Performance Charts
Front crawl, 25 yards
Back crawl, 25 yards
Breastroke, 25 yards
Elementary backstroke, 25 yards
Sidestroke, 25 yards
Butterfly, 15 yards

2. Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling)

3. Tread water for 1 minute

Lifeguard Instructor Class June 2024

Class days and times:

Prerequsite date: April 21st 11am-3pm

2 hours of blended learning work at home. 

In Person portion of class June 17th 8am-6pm, 18th 8am-12pm, 19th 8am-12pm

Course Prerequsites:

Instructor candidates must:

-Must be at least 17 years old on of before the final scheduled session of the lifeguarding instructor course.

- Possess a current basic-level certification in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid.

-Obtain all required instructor and participant course materials before starting the course.

-Successfully complete the online session of the Lifeguarding Instructor course prior to the precourse session.

Successfully complete the prerequisite skill assessment scenario to continue in the course.

Failure to meet any of these prerequisites prohibits an instructor candidate from continuing in the instructor course. The candidate must take the full Lifeguarding instructor course at a later date after they are able to meet all of the prerequisites.

Red Cross Lifeguard Course-Blended Learning

Participants must be strong swimmers, be comfortable in the water, comfortable on the pool deck enforcing rules and maintaining safety of aquatics area.

Participants must meet the following pre-requisites:
1. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by the final class of this course.
2. Complete a swim-treat-swim sequence without stopping to rest:

  1. Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Goggles are allowed)
  2. Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs!
  3. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both

3.Complete a timed event within 1:40.
       a. Starting in the water swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out, swim goggles are not allowed).
       b. Surface dive (feet first or headfirst) to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object.

c. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping face at or near the surface so they are able to breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water. 

  1. Must exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
