Participants must be strong swimmers, be comfortable in the water, comfortable on the pool deck enforcing rules and maintaining safety of aquatics area.
Participants must meet the following pre-requisites: 1. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by the final class of this course. 2. Complete a swim-treat-swim sequence without stopping to rest:
3.Complete a timed event within 1:40. a. Starting in the water swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out, swim goggles are not allowed). b. Surface dive (feet first or headfirst) to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object.
c. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping face at or near the surface so they are able to breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.

Course Prerequsites:
Instructor candidates must:
-Must be at least 17 years old on of before the final scheduled session of the lifeguarding instructor course.
- Possess a current basic-level certification in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid.
-Obtain all required instructor and participant course materials before starting the course.
-Successfully complete the online session of the Lifeguarding Instructor course prior to the precourse session.
Successfully complete the prerequisite skill assessment scenario to continue in the course.
Failure to meet any of these prerequisites prohibits an instructor candidate from continuing in the instructor course. The candidate must take the full Lifeguarding instructor course at a later date after they are able to meet all of the prerequisites.

The course is pass/fail, no refunds if a student fails to complete the course requirements or fails to attend every class. Class meets on the following dates:
Prerequsites: April 12th 7-8am May 4th, 9th, and 10th 8am-6pm
To participate in the Water Safety Instructor course, individuals must be 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled lesson of this cours and demonstrate the ability to perform the following skills (these are done during prerequistie day)
1. Swim the follow strokes consistent with the Stroke Performance Charts Front crawl, 25 yards Back crawl, 25 yards Breastroke, 25 yards Elementary backstroke, 25 yards Sidestroke, 25 yards Butterfly, 15 yards
2. Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling)
